Inspired by Disney
Some of my most recent projects have been inspired( copied? ) by a couple of Disney girls...
Now.. I'm not really a fan of Selena Gomez, but I instantly fell in love with this dress of hers.
Now.. I'm not really a fan of Selena Gomez, but I instantly fell in love with this dress of hers.
Since it also was similar to the first dress I ever made, I had a go at it, and was quite happy with the result.
Making the collar was quite a bit of work. And I had mainly gold thread and a couple of gold sequins to put it together.
While working on Selenas dress I came across this cute blue dress that Demi Lovato wears. (And honestly I am a bit of a fan of Demi!)
The finished dress! I think I might add some more to the underskirt to get a fuller form.
Anyway. These dresses are as old news now. My current project I think is taking things a step further. I am again inspired by disney, but in a more traditional sense! I have some seams, hemming and zipperwork to do. EXITED! :) I have been dreaming about this dress for many years. I won't say which one it is, but here's a hint......

Sorting some things out
I've decided not to limit this blog to simply one of my interests. So anyhting can now crop up really, but most likely, yes, sewing, fashion etc, but also food, films, music and more. This way I will also be able to post more frequently!
And I'll start right now.
It is now three days since the premiere of the final Harry Potter movie. Safe to say I was immensely exited to see it, but also nervous for the films to come to an end. Since it was the end, I decided I had to do something to honour Harry and the looong journey so many have been a a part of. I thought about dressing up (reuse my Luna Lovegood inspired costume perhaps), but that's not the most original idea. Since I love to bake, I got the idea to make cakes for everyone who was going to see the movie! At first i thought it was crazy, but I sort of had to do it after that...
The result was these "Griffindorcakes"
Since I needed so many it had to be simply done, so I made many batches of muffinbatter, and made large cakes of it. I used different food colouring, blended them together two-and-two, to make swirly patterned cakes using the Gryffindor house colors as inspiration

powdered sugarfrosting, cut up into nice little piieces, and then..

I cut out two Harry Potter stencils ( i.e. my brother cut them out. But I could totally have done it!) and sprinkled some cocoapowder on top!

Not bad ey?
The plan was to make 5-700... One for each. But since I started the night before the movie, I ended up with 300. (And a lot of left over batter!) Worked out tho, those who wanted some, got some. And there were a tray left over.
I was nervous preparing to hand them out, but I'm so glad I did it!
(My family deserves a big thanks as well, they helped me with every part of this project!)
The movie was of course, as Ron Weasley would put it, "Brilliant!"

A Yule Ball?
I LOVE Harry Potter! Just so that's clear. The books, the movies, everything.

So elegant. Maybe a bit to formal? I'm thinking if I make it a bit shorter it would be more suitable. ..or maybe it should be formal..? I haven't really been to a ball before... Jikes!
Hermione is probably my favourite character in the HP universe. But. Though the dresses she has worn are pretty, they are not as much my "style". So I won't go for any of them this time. But let's have a couple of pictures none the less! :)
I have seen The Deathly Hallows twice, and I will see it again soon. Loved it.
So, I could go on about HP forever, but i won't. Not right now anyway. This is just a little inspiration post, because, my class is going to have a Christmas Ball. :) Sort of, it's not until January, but still. The theme will be simple; "FROST" ("winter" etc) and I want to take inspiration from the HP-films for decoration, food, and so on. (I would have liked the whole theme to be "Harry Potter", but..oh well) SOOO, I absolutley must have a HP-inspired dress!
I have been picturing Luna Lovegoods Dress from DH..

It's just so sweet and a bit weird. Like Luna! :) And it grabbed my attention when I saw the film, probably partly beacuse I reeeeaally like yellow. BUT, for the sake of the theme I have to change the color. So I'm thinking bluuue. Not white surely. But blue.. I think that could work, just get the right blues so it doesn't look too.. babydoll or whatever.
(Also, I have these long blonde hairextensions I've never used. ...see where I'm going with this? :D )
But also, I've wanted for some time now, to make Fleurs dress fom the Yule Ball.

And i HAVE to add a picture of Fleurs wedding dress. How lovely is this one? Gasp.

A Small Introduction
In short;
In March, i was running out of time, so i decided to give myself a "project runway"-ish challenge. I had one day to make something of this pretty green fabric... Well.. I spent 2 days, aaand, I don't know. -___-
April I got some nice flowery fabric from my grand-mother, and got the idea for this dress. I'm really happy with it! (But it wasn't finished before the end of may...)
*I love clothes and fashion (and so many other things..less relevant to this blog.)
*I have been drawing clothing/costumes since.. I can't even remember.
*I learned myself to sew about 2 years ago, because I just HAD TO! :D
*Now I want to try and keep a blog about my sewingprojects, inspirations, ideas and such -for many reasons. Like, by making my goals somewhat public, I might be able to push myself harder to reach them. And, I have come across many nice sewingblogs that have inspired me, so maybe one day I can help inspire someone with mine! Also, it's nice to just have a record of what I have (or haven't) accomplished.
So yes, it's a sewing blog. Or fashion blog. Both. And I might squeeze in a few "unrelated" topics once in a while. But mainly fabrics, fashions, clothes I make, clothes i want to make, stuff I learn, inspiration. The works.
This year my main goal has been to sew 12 pieces of clothing. So pretty much one project for one month, because I tend to spend too long time on one thing. Well, we've been through 10 months, and..well let's see.
Things started out well, I made this 50s inspired pyjamas-dress in January. (It looks weird, but it's quite nice. :) )
February I spend making this top. There is actually a floral pattern in the fabric, which I really like, but the fabric is a bit stiff so I look pregnant when I wear it...

And so, it was summer. Holiday, sun, things to do. I started a new dress. But it is actually not finished YET! -And after summer I started at a new school, and was very busy. Things were not looking promising.
BUT! Luckily I am studying DRAMA and theatre(I love it :)) and our biggest project this semester was to, in groups, be assigned a play and then edit it down to half an hour, and set it up. We had to do everything ourselves, lights, direction, acting, sound and of course COSTUMES! :D I was so excited at this chance, and got the resposibility for the costumes.
And the play my group set up was no other than Shakespeare's Midsummernightsdream.
Long story short, we only had 6 weeks for the whole project, so this had to be simple but nice. We were 8 people, I drew costumes for 6 of us (the others had clothes they could use), and made 4 of them.
More details maybe in the future, but for now:
Outfits for Thesevs and Egevs, Hermia and Helena (I don't have pictures ATM..)
That's 8 projects total! :D
And the weekend after our premiere, we had planned a class-party, with a Rockabillytheme, and somehow I managed to make a whole dress in only four days! :D That's a record.
And here we are. 3 projects left. I am hoping I can finish the summerproject soooon. It's gonna be great! :) And then we'll see...
